backyard campout

When we moved up to Centerville for the summer, I kept saying the very first thing I wanted to do was go camping.  Well, of course, it was still a little too cold at that time.  So I waited patiently for the weather to warm up enough.  Then our weekends kept being too busy to find a time for an overnight camping trip.  Finally, last week was the last opportunity we had, so I warned Bryce that we were going to set the tent up in the backyard and "camp" no matter what.  He went along with it, even though he was slightly miserable in the beginning because it was so blazing hot outside, even as we were getting to bed at 11:30 pm.  As we were laying there, we could hear thunder rolling in.  It was actually a welcomed sound because we knew rain would cool the air down, plus we were fully prepared and had the rainfly set up.

Well...

We survived the storms, but didn't survive the sprinklers.

This is ironic because the sprinklers haven't worked at my parents house in years.  Of course, they finally get fixed the week we decide to sleep outside, and apparently... without anyone's knowledge... the timer was set to come on at 4:15 in the morning.  Lovely.  The rainfly didn't save us, because the sprinklers shot up under it and poured water through the screened windows.  You should've seen us in there- scrambling to zip up the couple windows that were opened, and then holding the blanket over our heads so the pillows wouldn't get wet from the water that was still making its way in.  It was pretty ridiculous.  You'd think we could just get out of the tent and go inside to sleep peacefully in our own bed, but we couldn't bring ourselves to give up on this much anticipated camping trip.  And ten minutes later, it was over...

We laughed about it for about 5 minutes, and then drifted back off to sleep.
